Post subject: NIH grants

So last week, Nature announced that the NIH will no longer be allowing proposal submissions for a third time. Researchers can still do an initial submission, and then one, ,but not a second.

What do people think?

It sort of worries me, my lab has an R01 that we've already had to submit a second time, and we haven't heard back. It is the biggest grant of the lab too.

Post subject: Some NIH News

I am working under a NIH grant through the University of Alaska Fairbanks, I am a high school biotechnology teacher. We just had the program evaluators come out this week and explain that NIH is really stingy right now with grants as a reflection of the economy. We are in year 2 of 5 so we are not worried...but just a heads up it is a dog eat dog world right now!
