Post subject: The discontinued white combs for MP3 system
|
Hello,
I am using the BioRad Vertical gel electrophoresis apparatus since more than five years (since December 2004). I started using the MP2 system (with black spacers and white combs) and the gradually started using MP3 and tetracells (with green combs). Our lab has about 13 MP3 (two gel system) and 4 tetra cells, and one dodeca cell. We also use a variety of horizontal systems (sub-cell GT, GT system etc.).
As i said, we used the MP2 systems with white combs and then BioRad discontinued these combs with the new MP3 and tetra cell and introduced the green comb. I guess that was a blunder because the white combs were far better then the green combs. We have only three white combs left in our lab and everyone uses them only (no takers for the green ones). Reasons: Firstly, the wells made by white combs are very neat and clean (without any gel on either side of the well whereas that is not the case with the new combs). Secondly, the wells formed with white combs can take more sample volume than green ones. One may say that, buy 1.5 mm combs which will take 66 microlitre volume, but than all the acessories (plates ets. will be useless). Can anyone help me in this.
If any BIoRad product manager is reading this, i urge you to please start manufacturing the white combs again. Also, discontinuing MP3 and continuing only with Tera cell is not a good idea. MP3 is the best product in this field and should be continued.
Thanks.

Hi Ranveer,
I am the Product Manager for the Tetra cell. I wanted to let you know that since the initial development of the green combs, we have made product improvements to reduce the issues you have mentioned. It would be great to make sure you are using the newest version of the combs. We can work directly with you to make sure you have a new set of combs to try.
Thank you,
Kate

I too like my MP3 set up - the Tetra has had more 'smiley' gels than I see with my MP3 - too bad they are getting rid of the MP3!
