I once had a coroded electrode and just DH2O managed to clean it. But never had milky buffer because of it.

Hi,

Could you kindly provide the following information.

Did you see the buffer in the entire tank turn milky/white or only in the the inner buffer chamber?
Were there any precipitates?
What was the pH of the running buffer?
What is your method (detergents, ethanol, etc?) of cleaning the tank and cores?

Either replace the electode or make sure you really wash it off - we just use di water after the run to clean the electrodes.

If the electrode is corroded, you could try cleaning the electrode with ethanol. It might get rid of your problem.

Our lab has been running westerns on a regular basis for the last couple of weeks and even though our Tetra Cell is new we seem to have a problem with our electrode assembly. The positive electrode looks like it is corroded and turned our running buffer very milky during our run today, and the voltage does not seem to hold. We are very careful to not disrupt the electrode wires during cleaning of the apparatus so are wondering if anyone has suggestions on why we are experiencing these problems considering the above... Thanks!
